Its primary purpose is to safeguard the well-being of the campus community through awareness, prevention, and enforcement measures.
OBJECTIVES
The main objectives of an anti-drug committee include:
- Awareness:To educate students about the ill effects and dangers of drug and alcohol abuse on their physical and mental health.
- Prevention:To stop the initiation of drug use and prevent the progression to addiction among those already exposed.
- Environment:To ensure that the college premises, including hostels and surrounding areas, are entirely free of drugs and alcohol.
- Support:To provide confidential counselling and support services to students struggling with substance abuse issues.
- Engagement:To engage and motivate students to become active volunteers and advocates for anti-drug initiatives.
ROLES AND FUNCTIONS
The committee undertakes various activities to achieve its objectives:
- Organizing awareness programs:Conducting seminars, workshops, guest lectures by experts, and film screenings on drug abuse prevention.
- Enforcing policy:Imposing a total ban on the use and possession of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco products within the campus, and ensuring strict penalties for violations.
- Monitoring and reporting:Carrying out regular and surprise inspections in hostels, cafeterias, and other areas. Establishing a confidential system for students to report drug-related concerns.
- Collaboration with authorities:Working with local police, the Narcotics Control Bureau, and government-authorized health agencies and rehabilitation centres to implement effective initiatives and get professional help for students in need.
- Promoting positive activities:Encouraging students to participate in sports, physical exercise, yoga, meditation, and other healthy lifestyle choices.
- Information dissemination:Displaying prominent anti-drug posters, hoardings, and banners across the campus.
