ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
- The Department of Chemistry was established in 1990 with the introduction of the B.Sc. Chemistry programme, with a sanctioned strength of 40 students. The department also offers Chemistry as an allied subject for the B.Sc. Physics and B.Sc. Mathematics programmes, while Mathematics and Physics are offered as allied subjects for B.Sc. Chemistry.
- In the academic year 2004–2005, the department was upgraded with the commencement of the M.Sc. Chemistry programme, with a sanctioned strength of 32 students. Since its inception, the department has steadily evolved into a promising centre of academic excellence, supported by a team of dedicated, experienced and competent faculty members committed to high-quality teaching, mentoring and research.
- It has produced several university rank holders in both UG and PG programmes. To enhance student engagement and foster scientific temperament, the department established the Chemspark Association in 1990. Through this association, a variety of academic and co-curricular activities—such as guest lectures, seminars, workshops, quiz programmes, exhibitions and industrial/ laboratory visits—are conducted regularly. These activities enrich students’ practical exposure, strengthen their conceptual understanding and inspire them to pursue higher studies and research.
- The department continues to focus on holistic student development by offering value-added programmes, hands-on training and opportunities for project work, preparing students for careers in industry, research and education.
