ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
- The Department of Mathematics was established in 1987, making it one of the oldest and most dynamic departments of the college. The department offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The B.Sc. Mathematics course was introduced in 1987 with a sanctioned strength of 60 students. The M.Sc. Mathematics programme was introduced in 2004 with a sanctioned strength of 40 students, as approved by the university. Mathematics is offered as an allied subject for B.Sc. Physics and B.Sc. Chemistry, and as a major subject for B.Sc. Computer Science. The faculty members also handle the Mathematical Foundation course for the MCA programme.
- The department has consistently maintained an excellent academic record, producing several university rank holders in both UG and PG programmes. The faculty members are highly qualified and are committed to promoting strong analytical, logical, and problem-solving skills among students.
- Apart from academic excellence, the department emphasizes holistic development by nurturing research interest and mathematical thinking. The department association, “ODD & EVEN”, established in 1987, organizes various activities such as quiz competitions, guest lectures, workshops, seminars, and mathematical exhibitions throughout the year. These initiatives provide opportunities for students to engage in problem-solving and enhance their knowledge beyond the curriculum.
- To strengthen practical exposure and learning outcomes, the department encourages students to participate in academic competitions, certificate programmes, and skill-development activities. Graduates from the Department of Mathematics have been successfully placed in reputed organizations, reflecting the high standard of education and training provided.
